Still going loco over UCPB’s Cocobank Sandwich

This is a reprint of an earlier entry which I contributed to my husband’s former blog back in August 2012.

He introduced me to the famous Cocobank Sandwich during a luncheon meeting with our Ninong, UCPB director and then Minola President Jesus Arranza. We recently visited Ninong again which gave me the opportunity to once more enjoy this novelty dish.

Also, I was happy to again run into Mr. Oscar Fulgencio, the Operations Head of UCPB’s Executive Lounge. He told me that during the intervening years and with all that inflation, the UCPB sandwich has only increased by Php5.00!     --- Misis

If you are in the vicinity of UCPB’s Corporate Office in Makati and happen to be on an empty stomach, consider heading over to The UCPB Executive Lounge!

What makes The Executive Lounge stand out is that it offers a lot of value for your money. All-day breakfast meals served with brewed coffee can be had for as low as Php75 going all the way up to Php205/set. A la carte vegetable dishes are affordable at Php80 and fresh or canned juices are available for only Php30.

Don’t leave without trying their signature Cocobank Sandwich (P35 half, P60 whole)! Of all their delightful offerings, this is the most popular item. A staple on the menu since 1982, it has been exclusively served to the executives, employees and guests of UCPB. The sandwich has gained such a following that more than a thousand are served every month.

This is really the restaurant’s version of a Monte Cristo Sandwich. For those of you who are not familiar with this, the Monte Cristo is part Club Sandwich and part French Toast.  It’s a combination of sweet, savory and tangy flavor…all in one bite! If you’re the type who likes to syrup-drenched ham, then you are bound to enjoy the Cocobank Sandwich.

UCPB’s take on this popular battered sandwich is grilled instead of fried thus minus the grease. Instead of serving the fruit preserve on the side, the sweet concoction is layered inside thus creating a triple decker sandwich. Their choice of fruit preserve is none other than the minatamis na buko!

Upon first bite, you taste the tanginess of the mayo then the saltiness of ham & cheese, and lastly the sweetness of the coconut tickles your tastebud. It has the right balance of sweet tang and salty goodness of the French toast and filling.

Just allow 10-15 minutes preparation time when you order this sandwich. And we suggest ordering a glass of fresh coconut water to complete your coco loco experience. Remember, that for every order of Cocobank Sandwich and coconut juice, you are taking part in UCPB’s commitment of “uplifting the quality of life of people living in coconut producing communities.”

Now, if you do not know anyone from UCPB, worry not. Mastercaterers Inc, concessionaire of The Executive Lounge, now accepts in-house as well as off-premise catering. So for your upcoming corporate functions or office parties, contact Mr. Oscar Fulgencio (Operations Head) at 632-8119898 loc 7034 or e-mail at mastercaterers@ucpb.com.
